Lot's of people have New Year's resolutions but they can often be difficult to start doing and even harder to maintain. Well guess what? Ballroom dancing can help with several kinds of goals! And it's a ton of fun, so once you start you won't want to stop!







Get in Shape


So often we have this as our New Years Resolution, and we do great with it for the first few weeks. But then, we get busy or just lack the initial motivation and end up running out of steam. And after that it can be quite the struggle to get back on track. Sometimes we just need a little fun in our workout regimen to make it stick for the longterm. Ballroom dancing is perfect for this! With dancing you can change it up and always learn something new. There are oftentimes social dances on the weekends to test out what you learn and get your workout in on the weekend. Some students go dancing every night, which can really help you achieve those fitness and dance goals. Sometimes the hardest part to working out is making yourself get through it for the full time. When you dance, the time flies by so quickly that before you know it, you already got 30, 40, 50 minutes in!




Learn Something New


If you are looking to acquire some new skills then dancing is certainly a great activity to pursue. Sometimes we stop continuing our goals because we get tired of the everyday monotony in our lives. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced dancer, there are always new patterns and techniques you can challenge yourself with so you never tire of doing the same thing. Another benefit of challenging yourself with dancing is that it can help improve your memory. Dancing specifically has been associated with a lower risk of dementia.





Have More Date Nights


Sometimes the dinner and a movie date night can get old, and that in itself can stop you from keeping those much needed date nights a priority. Whether it's a new relationship or one of many years, dancing is a great way to connect with your partner and learn something new about them. Learning how to lead and follow patterns creates a space for light-hearted communication with your partner. Try Ballroom dancing with your partner and you'll never want to reschedule another date night again!





Make New Friends


It can be difficult to meet new people when you go to the same places all the time. Try changing it up a bit! Ballroom dancing attracts a wide variety of people who have many interests. Many people like to go to ballroom dancing because of having the option to go with someone or go solo. No matter how you do it, you don't need to go with a partner in order to dance and have a good time. Another reason many people like ballroom dancing at studios is because it can be a great alternative to the bar-scene. Those who have struggles with alcohol or just prefer not to be at a bar but still enjoy dancing often find a lot of satisfaction in ballroom dancing. And once you go to one ballroom dance event, you'll most likely see someone you know each time you go dancing somewhere new! It's a whole community of people and it's nice to know that you'll probably see a familiar face wherever you decide to go dancing.





Get in Touch With Your Creative Side


Oftentimes throughout life, we put our creative sides on the back burner in order to focus on more serious areas that need our attention like work or family. But allowing yourself the space for self-expression can be the spark that motivates you to do better in those areas. It can push you to complete your goals, work harder, reconnect with people you lost touch with. Sometimes we lose part of who we are to mundane life and forget how much we need to wake up our creative sides to help us out in our daily lives. Dance is a wonderful way to reconnect with that part of yourself. With dancing, you are able to let lose a little and express what you are feeling from the music with others!
